[Poll #1847062]

I personally thank them verbally when I receive a Christmas gift, and then mail a handwritten thank you card to their homes, so that I can thank their parents too.

But with thank you gifts, I'm not so sure? For example, I received a gift yesterday thanking me for being a wonderful coach and allowing him to grow as an individual and foster his love for the ocean sciences. I thanked him when he gave me the gift, but then do I still thank you for a thank you gift? Does that seem cyclically awkward?? (Thank you! -No, thank you. Thank you for the thank you. -Thank you for the thank you to the thank you...)

Now, I'm not a teacher, so I'm just going on generalized thoughts regarding a thank you for a Christmas gift. If the class as a whole pitches in for something, maybe a verbal thank you to the group is sufficient. If individual students give you gifts, I'd be more prone to send a card to them. Altough, nothing too formal, observing the boundaries, just a respectful "thank you" note.

If I may ask, as a teacher, how many coffee mugs do you own that say #1 Teahcer in goofy font? (it's even better if the mug came with Hershy Kisses or some other candy inside!)

I'm torn - I always thank the student verbally and usually give them a holiday card for a holiday gift, but I got a few gifts from parents as I was leaving last week and I'm already locked out of the online system so I don't have access to their addresses anymore. I did e-mail or see the parents and thank them, though, and of course I thanked the students as well.
