Amelia weaning slowly
Jun. 8th, 2015 08:19 pmI have not pumped in a very, very long time. I think since Amelia was 11 months old in January.
Tomorrow, I will be using my very last bag of frozen breast milk in my freezer stash. Which means, as of Wednesday, Amelia will no longer have breast milk at daycare.
It starts with small insignificant gestures, like offering her a 4-oz bottle of warmed cow's milk in the middle of the night. And then in a few days, my milk supply isn't what it used to be any more in the evenings, so to fall asleep, she now needs another 4-oz. bottle of milk (again, cow's milk).
In a week, she has gone from nursing 6 - 8 times a day, to now having lots of supplemental whole cow's milk and only nursing 3 - 4 times a day. Normally, it is once when I pick her up at daycare at 3 PM, once before bed around 7 PM, once in the middle of the night around 1 AM, and once in the early morning around 6 AM.
I see the end in sight and it is bittersweet.
