I'm not a big flower girl, honestly, I'd rather see them in my garden than dying in a vase. I see it in the same vein as zoos that cage their animals instead of providing a safari-like sanctuary for their wildlife. I understand the purpose of aquariums and zoos, which in today's world functions largely by saving injured or "tamed" wildlife that cannot be returned to the wild, but certainly rally against the old-school philosopy of capturing wildlife to be displayed for the public.
I don't mind receiving flowers, I certainly don't ask for or expect them, and I can't think of lots of other things I'd rather get than flowers (fine dining, jewelry, movies or a book!), but yesterday, it was a nice surprise.
