Amelia is 5 months old

In typical second-child fashion, her 5-month old photo shoot was 9 days late. Sorry, Amelia. We still love you.

Let's see, what is she like right now---

• She has shown an increasing interest in toys. She is pictured here with her teethers, rattles, and several other toys to grab and shake.


• She can sit up unassisted, for short periods of time. She is shown above sitting on the bed, as she collapses after 3 - 4 camera shots.


• She breaks into the biggest grin of pure joy every time she sees Brian, Erika, or I. It makes my heart melt every time.


• She loves "singing". She croons in the early morning when she wakes up, and in the early evening hours before dinner.


• She takes 3 naps a day. She takes a mid-morning nap around 10 AM (for 40 min), then a longer late afternoon nap (1 - 2 hours), and then an evening nap around 5 PM (for 40 min). She then sleeps "through the night" from 8 PM to 6 AM. I say it in quotations because she nurses 4 times during that period, but mostly asleep. Sometimes, she wakes and decides to "talk to me" for an hour straight. When this happens, this tends to happen at 4 AM. WHY....!!!!!


• She still refuses to take the bottle. This means she nurses about 4 times between 11 PM and 6 AM when I wake to go to work.


• We introduced her to solid foods this week. She has tried mashed banana, applesauce, and pearsauce; all homemade (steamed fruit, mashed with a little bit of filtered water).


• Her hair isn't standing straight up in a mohawk as much any more. I think her hair has gotten longer, so it makes it more difficult to go straight up. As you can see from the above side profile, she now has an old man comb-over of sorts.
