Happy a 100 days, Amelia!
Amelia 3mo Jun30 14

Amelia is 15 weeks old. She has started laughing-- an abrupt cackle-- when I give her Eskimo kisses. She smiles at me a lot, but gives everyone else a suspicious glare. In fact, she makes a loud, concerned, "Wah?" when I leave her sights for more than two minutes, followed by "WAH?!!" and then hysterics.

We've been trying to introduce the bottle to her, as I will be working (teaching  summer camp) for 6 hours/day in two weeks, but to no avail. She took the bottle when she was a week old, but since then I insisted we pack them all up to support our breastfeeding relationship, and it looks like that statement has come full circle on me. We have tried multiple nipples, warmed milk, freshly pumped milk, mother leaving the house (for as long as 4 hours), me feeding her, feeding her when she is sleepy and also when very hungry, but no luck. She turns her head away, or clamps her lips shut, or she'll protest loudly when I keep teasing her with the nipple. If I manage to get the nipple in, she'll push it to the side of her mouth, with a not-amused expression, looking like a farmer with a straw hanging out her mouth. Kind of like this:

On July Fourth, I was determined she'd take at least a sip off the bottle before I nursed her, so she nursed at 1 PM, and despite introductions every hour (sometimes several times an hour), she ended up winning at 7 PM when I threw in the towel and said "this is going to be the daycare provider's struggle, not mine!!", and nursed her. As soon as I put her on my lap and unbuckled my bra strap, her gave a big triumphant smile and opened her mouth, gaping wide. And she nursed for an hour straight, and we were both content to sit together for that amount of time. Darn stubborn baby.

Amelia can sit up with minimal support. If we go on an outing, she tries her best to stay awake the entire time. We went to the zoo last weekend and the amusement park this weekend, and both excursions were about 3 hours in length, and she didn't close her eyes one wink. But then we get into the car and she passes out, fast asleep.

She hasn't rolled over reliably yet, but she's surprised herself a few times when she has done so. When Hurricane Arthur came through, the air temperature dropped from 95 F (35 Celcius) to 75 F (24 Celcius). It was the perfect opportunity to put Amelia in a hoodie sweatshirt for the first time, wearing a 6-9 mo outfit that had been purchased for Erika 4 years ago, but never worn. You see, by the fall, Erika was 5 months old, and many well-intentioned family and friends had purchased 6-9 mo size for her, but she'd already grown to wear size 12 months! Amelia is now 3.5 months old and on a similar track-- she currently wears 6-9mo., so I can foretell that the 10 or so cute jackets and sweaters are not going to fit in September... :(
