Despite my best efforts to steer Erika towards having a birthday party at a venue, like a bouncing gym, fast food joint (McD? Chuck E Cheese? Something horridly processed and overpriced?), or even her preschool (they offer birthday packages like a swim party), Erika is insistent that for her 4th birthday party, she wants it at our new home.

She wants a "picnic tea party" theme, outdoors with a blanket and all her girl friends, dressed in pretty dress outfits. As a contingency plan, I'm anticipating being indoors in case of foul weather. In reality, they'll probably be running in and out of the house... For food, she wants finger foods that are easy to pick up: she suggested carrots, strawberries, blueberries, and sandwiches.

We made a list of friends she wanted to invite, and it came to about 15 children, plus I'm inviting their siblings (for an additional 7 or so). I'm assuming not everyone will come, so I'm guess-timating it to be about 15 children total, plus parent chaperones.

Here's what I didn't think about: how do you accommodate all those people in a house, seating-wise? We certainly don't have that many chairs, and when we gather around to blow out the candles, how do the little kids see the cake on the dining table? Or do we gather around someplace else? How is food served? My big question is: Where do people (adults and children) sit? Do they just stand? I have 2 sofas, a rocking chair, a single-seater, 2 lawn chairs, and 6 dining room chairs-- that's it.

Do I rent chairs? Do I get lawn chairs for the backyard? What do I do??!

As you can tell, I'm not the type to throw parties in my house.... HELP!
