Someone gave me a cold for my birthday. had body aches on Friday and Saturday last week. By Sunday, I felt better, but then on Tuesday I woke up with a sore throat and a runny nose, Wednesday it progressed quickly into a wet chesty cough with lots of phlegm and a splitting headache, so I left work at 8 AM and went to the doctor.
Diagnosis: upper respiratory infection; prescribed Zithromax, which is not normally recommended in pregnancy unless needed, but they are concerned that it'll develop into pneumonia (which I caught in 2011 and resulted in a 4-day hospitalization) and/or reduced oxygen levels to the fetus, which could cause fetal distress. The headache is caused by sinus congestion, and she noted that my right ear is inflamed and very red. Throat is red and raw.
