Erika and Santa
Dec. 19th, 2011 08:34 amErika's been very excited about Santa. She learned about him at school and we talked about him bringing presents and putting them under the tree that we purchased last week. We told her whenever she sees him, she should wave and say "hi", so she's been diligently saying "hi" to Santas at the mall, on the streets, and even blow-up lawn decoration Santas and the TV.
But recently we told her a little more about Santa: how he's going to come into the house while she is asleep (and only when she is asleep!), and how he's going to eat some cookies and drink some milk before he goes on his merry way.
The most horrified look came over her face. She pointed at her stuffed horse and said "Santa no touch horse!", and then at her favorite books, "Santa no touch books!". She ran to the fridge: "Santa no drink Erika's milk! Mine! No eat cookies!" I think she even called him a "bad man".
Now Erika is genuinely concerned that this big, strange, white man with a huge burglar sack on his back is going to break into our house while we're all asleep and pull a Goldilocks on us! Touch our things (she HATES people touching her things) and eat our food? And drink our precious milk? Someone call the cops!
