Halloween

Would you believe me if I said I handed out 9 pounds of candy last night? At 7pm, I actually jumped in m car and raced to the closest convenience store-- only to have them tell me that they're entirely SOLD OUT of candy. Raced to the grocery store-- ditto. It was ridiculous.

The week leading up to Halloween, it was hilarious to see signs posted in all the major supermarket/grocery stores that read: "No eggs, toilet paper or cleaning detergent will be sold to anyone under the age of 18". *grins* (If you're not from NJ and don't know about Mischief Night, click here for a great post by [livejournal.com profile] dolphingirl)

We gave out the good candy. I saw a girl, after trick-or-treating across the street, pop a candy in her mouth, and promptly spat it out on the sidewalk. *grins* I personally hate anything with caramel or peanut butter in it, so we gave out a mix of Starburst, Blowpops, Smarties, Bubblegum, Mints, Hershey Kisses, Mini-Hersheys, and I even threw in some of my personal stash of Mini Tobelrones for good measure. Some kids came to the door and yelled: "You have HERSHEYS!!?!" It makes me wonder what other houses hand out.

One father, though, when his daughter came round trick-or-treating, said to me: "Do you attend Southern Regional?" (The local high school). When I paused, he said "Sophomore? Junior?" HE THOUGHT I WAS SIXTEEN! He didn't believe me when I told him I was twenty-four and owned the house. He tried to discreetly peek over my shoulder and see where my parents were, but I caught him doing it. Brian said I should be flattered-- at least he didn't come round asking where my *grandchildren* were-- but at that moment, I would've rather be thought of as at least old enough to purchase alcohol.
