For two weeks straight, I told B that if he knows me well enough, he'll know what to do for Valentine's Day.

So today, I didn't get any chocolates or roses. I guess B does know me well.

I think it's disgusting that a dozen roses costs $30 at Pathmark. It's Pathmark for God's sake, it's a supermarket like ACME, Shop Rite, and Joe's Grocer. I am a die-hard bargain-hunter. Roses and chocolates on V-Day would've killed me, knowing how much money would've been blown. I think I would've thrown the roses on his face and tell him to see if he could return it.

It's not that I'm against roses or chocolates. I'm just against it when vendors think they are justified in charging a 500% mark-up on it. Get me a bouquet of flowers on a Wednesday in the middle of May (not Mother's Day, though.. watch out..)

Instead, we went shopping for wedding rings. On our fourth Valentine's Day together, we bought our wedding rings. We got a great deal. To give you an idea-- it is less than 50% of what Zales is currently selling the exact same ring for, and Zales is having a 50% off sale. It's ridiculous. My bit of adivce: never buy from Blue Nile or Zales or any other store like that. Go to a mom-pop jeweler's. They'll do right by you. I am so happy. The rings have to be sized, and we're picking it up in a week. In other words, we're picking up our weddings exactly one year after B proposed to me in Times Square on Feb 21, 2003.

I turned to B and said: "My God, we're like REALLY getting married!" and he looked at me and said, "yeah, I've known for a year now...." Wise-ass.

I would LOVE to see someone trying to return a bouquet of roses to a florist!

I've always said that I won't be picky when/if I ever get engaged or married, but my one restriction is that the rings please not come from WalMart or K-Mart. I know they sell them, but my God. I'm going to have to pull a snobby better-than-that attitude on this one!

I absolutely would make him. I'd wait by the door of the florist while he went up to the counter. I'd make him. I swear.

As for Walmart-- hehe, yes, have you seen the commercials on TV? It's hilarious... they have five/six girls raving about their rings, how gorgeous it is, then it flashes-- Walmart. And I go: "Whuaa??"

We stopped at Hy-Vee for breakfast after work this morning and they were giving away their Valentine's balloons. I took three, because they were cool and free, and so no one releases them. :)

Yep!

And one says "You're BERRY sweet!" and was strawberry shaped! How could I NOT take it?

Valentine's Day is a national economy drive. How that's related to the intimacy and uniqueness of love is beyond me.
